The Department of Sociology was started at GADC Nurpur in 2009 It has the distinction of being one of the departments prior to that of Himachal Pradesh University where the same department was established in 1989.The subject started with 20 students on –roll. The subject gained popularity in a short span of time due to the concerted efforts in the area such as intellectual environment encompassing both teachers and students, reminiscent interaction between faculty and students and its scope and relevance.
The department offers a wide spectrum of courses spread over three years/ six semesters (2013-20) in order to equip the students with skills and sociological knowledge. The course curriculum has both academic and societal relevance incorporating contemporary issues.
The faculty of the department has strong work ethics and is regularly engaged in student centric programs/activities which are executed through subject society. Due to the high demand of the subject teachers are giving their services to other institutions of learning like Law colleges of Himachal Pradesh and other universities and Boards. The faculty is regularly invited for talks/shows/interaction on media on various social issues.
